We reported on this before. The threat turned into a promise. It is questionable whether Trump has the law on his side, although he’s milking it for all the publicity value he can get.

Business mogul Donald Trump said Monday he plans to follow through with his promise to sue Bill Maher for $5 million for charity after the liberal comic failed to follow through on a public bet made last month.
“He promised me $5 million for charity if I provided certain information,” Trump said Monday on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.” “Well, I provided the information. He didn’t pay. So today I sue Bill Maher for $5 million for charity.”
The host of HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher” told Jay Leno during a January “Tonight Show” appearance that he was disappointed that Trump never released his own birth certificate, as the real estate mogul made such a big deal over President Barack Obama’s parentage.
In light of Trump’s $5 million offer to Obama to release his college records, Maher quipped that he would pay Trump $5 million to prove that he is not, as Maher put it, the spawn of a monkey.
Trump’s attorney Scott S. Balber released a letter following Maher’s comments and attached a copy of Trump’s birth certificate as proof, according to Politico.
“Attached hereto is a copy of Mr. Trump’s birth certificate, demonstrating that he is the son of Fred Trump, not an orangutan,” Balber wrote in the letter.
The letter also designated the five charities Maher’s $5 million is to go to: Hurricane Sandy Victims, the Police Athletic League, the American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Trump voiced his feelings about the bet on Twitter after Maher’s “Tonight Show” appearance.

Confronting an actual President

Might the Trump be the celebrity who is reported to be standing by ready to accompany the release by Sheriff Joe’s volunteer Cold Case Posse of the new and never before released evidence that even the most skeptical person won’t be able to contest?
If the Don were even present at the press conference where the new information is released, that would virtually assure coverage of the event by major news media outlets.
